Job Title: Category Manager - Heating
Reporting to : Senior Category Manager
Location: Hampton in Arden
Salary: £35 – 40k dependant on experience
Start Date: Immediately
Company Overview:
You will be working for one of the largest plumbing and heating merchants in the UK with 190 branches across the country.
Principle Objectives:
To understand the management needs of the business and ensure key performance targets are understood and achieved. This will be achieved through the development of category and supplier strategies in conjunction with the Purchasing team. Strategies must encourage sustainable growth, improve profitability through supplier mix and reducing Cost of Goods Sold, and maintain or grow competitive advantage.
Key responsibilities:
- Negotiate purchasing terms for specified suppliers at head office level as appropriate
- Develop category and supplier plans in line with business brand needs and secure appropriate management agreement and support
- Develop appropriate commercial relationships with key and new suppliers in areas including, trading terms, service level agreements, product specification and quality etc
- Develop appropriate internal relationships with Price File team, Stock Controllers, Marketing and Merchandising teams for the successful implementation of your category plans
- Develop appropriate relationships with branches, Regional team, and senior management team
- Communicate plans to Management team and branches as appropriate, including written, verbal, and presentation methods
- Develop compelling promotional campaigns to support sales, margin, or supplier development strategies
- Manage product portfolio to ensure supply levels that are appropriate with business
- Work with suppliers and management team to develop selling price structures that are appropriate to the market needs
- Be mindful of relevant legislation, social/economic changes, and corporate and social responsibility that may effect business plans
- Manage KPIs in areas relevant to your category, including purchase information, rebate tracking, special deals, rebate payments, sales information, stock availability and stock turn
- Produce regular reports on the performance of your category for the management team
- Actively engage in self development through on-the job learning, formal training, and seeking new challenges.

Measurements of Success:
- Sales and margin growth in your category
- Reduction in Cost of Goods sold
- Additional income from special deals, price deferments etc
- Trading terms formalised on an annual basis (unless specified otherwise)
- Improved stock turn and reduction in overstock/obsolete stock
- On time rebate payments
Skills and Experience
- Confident using Microsoft Office, in particular Outlook and Excel
- Good time management/organisational skills
- Be confident and authoritative , with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Have an analytical, thorough and organised approach with a good eye for detail
- Previous purchasing or category management skills would be desirable
- Knowledge of heating products would also be an advantage
- Although office based, the role will require extensive UK travel
